An ordinary dog becomes a hero 3/2/11

Truco, an abused dog, saved 18 lives after the earthquake in Haiti

Truco is a Young Labrador dog that was left in Andalucia with a wound in his neck. The dog was very thin, tired and injured, and he was full of parasites. He was about to die and because of all these things, he couldn’t bark. He spent, we don’t know how much time, wandering around Tarifa in 2008, until one day, a group of soldiers found him and took him with them.

This is how the dog, met by Cristina Plaza Jorge, a soldier who was 22 years old and loved Turco at once. Cristina took Truco to the vet and then to her house, where she loved and took care of him. With Cristina Truco recovered fast but he couldn’t bark yet.

One day, a fireman who belonged to a rescue group, in “Castilla y León”, saw him smelling and running on the beach and he thought that Truco had the skills of a rescue dog. They asked Cristina if Truco could do some tests to know if he could be a rescue dog. She agreed with them, although this decision was very difficult for her. She also said to the rescue men that Truco couldnt bark, but fifteen days later, the rescue men phoned Cristina and told her that he could bark and he had passed the tests. They taught the dog all the things that he needed to know and finally, he was totally prepared. The rescue group of Valladolid took Truco to Haiti with them after the earthquake. Truco was working a lot, 16 hours every day and in very bad condition, but it was worth. Truco managed to save the lives of 18 people, including a child of 2 years old. He was under some ruins, protected by his dead grandpa. Truco found them and the rescue group could save him. Of course, Cristina was very proud of Truco. Now Truco is still in the rescue group and he continues saving lives.
