-FOR AND AGAINST ESSAY-

LOWERING THE AGE TEENAGERS CAN GET A DRIVING LICENCE

A car is a very useful transport for most people. The present law, doesn’t let teenagers, younger than eighteen years old, have a driving licence in Spain and all the European Union, but there are some countries, like America or some parts of Australia, where teenagers can have a driving licence if they are older than fourteen, fifteen or sixteen. Some people think that it’s a good prevention for teenagers because the car is, somehow, a danger, but others believe that a driving license should be given to teenagers earlier. So, people ask themselves: should teenagers have a driving licence before the age of eighteen?

On the one hand, it should be a good thing for teenagers to go where they want when they want, so that they could have more freedom. Another thing to pay attention is that if they had a car, they wouldn’t ride motorcycles, and some people think that motorcycles are more dangerous than cars. We have to say that sometimes it is better to have your own car then to get in some friend’s car who has a driving license.

On the other hand, freedom is sometimes a danger and if teenagers don’t have a car until they are eighteen years old, parents can control their ‘children’ a little more.

Another against point is that teenagers have to be very responsible and they have to know what they are doing because a car is not a toy. They know to have the rules so clearly and to follow them.

In conclusion, I think that the driving licence is something that people can have if they are responsible enough to have it. If a teenager of fifteen years is responsible enough he can have it, but if not, he mustn’t have it. I agree with the present law, but I also think that it doesn’t depend on the age but on the awareness of each one.
